You’re getting ready for that big test at school or that job interview, and you can’t stop sweating. Your heart feels like it’s going to jump out of your chest, and you feel nauseous and like you’ll faint any minute.

This is anxiety — and it’s natural to feel anxious in those moments.

But when feelings of anxiety become overwhelming and interfere with your daily life, it might be an anxiety disorder. Anxiety can impact the way we act and feel in different scenarios. If you have anxiety in social situations, you may not go out as much or put yourself up for those public speeches that could benefit you or your career. If you have anxiety because you hold yourself up to high expectations it may also affect your confidence levels and self-esteem. Anxiety is an extremely common issue. The good news is, it’s treatable. Here at Essentially You Counseling and Wellness Services we are motivated to help you identify what is triggering your anxiety.

The biggest step to reducing anxiety is being able to identify what is causing it and knowing the warning signs before it begins. From there, we can help you to find coping strategies that work best for you. Although there are coping strategies that commonly work for most people, we like to try and find the ones that work best for you and your personality. Just like everyone has their own fingerprint, everyone also has their own preferences when it comes to coping with anxiety. We also work to help you challenge and question irrational thoughts that may be the cause of your anxiety. Becoming self-aware about how our own thoughts can be affecting us can help reduce our anxieties greatly.
