Did you know that approximately 60% of men and 50% of women will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that stems from a traumatic event or multiple traumatic events. The aftereffects can be debilitating as well as confusing when triggers that bring up a memory or sensation of the trauma arise and are challenging to understand. Even if the brain recognizes why it is happening, the question then becomes, how does one make it stop?

Living with PTSD can be challenging when you are struggling to integrate life surrounded by the symptoms you are experiencing. This is where Essentially You Counseling and Wellness Services therapists can assist by providing you ways in which to manage your symptoms while helping your brain heal so that you can live your life in the best way possible, despite the trauma you have been succumbed to.

One of the ways to heal from PTSD is to engage in EMDR which repositions the trauma in your brain by taking those traumatic memories and stores them as something that has happened in the past rather than experiencing triggers that exist in the present. This will create the balance and healing that will lead you to a life that is free from the past and the ability to be present in the moment. Healing from a traumatic event can take time but our therapists understand the delicate process and can help you navigate the road to recovery.
